Our New Altar and Sanctuary at St. Leo Parish - The Beginning

The Beginning:
August 24, 2003 Change is Coming.
Our Church Renovation Committee continues to work with our architect Mike Purdy and local artist, John Lajba, as well as our talented parishioners, Ray and Helen Gloeb. We are finalizing plans for the renovations in our worship space. At this point, we have decided on the size, color and configuration of the stained glass cross to be placed behind the corpus of Jesus. John Lajba is currently sculpting the model for the corpus. We have finished the plans for the platform covering both the sanctuary and the area for the music ministry.
We will begin work on this project around October 27, 2003 and plan to complete it within a 3-4 week period. During that time period, we will still have Mass on weekends in the main worship space. However, we will likely have weekday Masses somewhere else in the building. There are no weddings scheduled during this time and if we have a funeral, we will have to decide what will work best.

Building of the Altar
We would like to give parishioners the opportunity to be part of this renovation project. We will need help in the following areas: carpentry, electrical, tile laying and dry wall. If you would like to be able to place a bid in one of these areas, please contact Mike Purdy. Please keep in mind that we will have a fairly narrow window during which we need to complete the work. We will also need a number of volunteers from the parish to help with the more unskilled work of dismantling and carrying things out of the building. You may also contact Mike Purdy to volunteer for this work.
Building of the Altar
In the near future, John Lajba will be sculpting a model of the corpus of Jesus. As he works on the model, there will be opportunities for parishioners to view his work. He welcomes parishioners to come and view it. Watch for more information on this.
I would like to remind you that all of these improvements are being funded by your Capital Campaign contributions. The campaign, conducted in the fall of 2000, included major components at St. Pius X/St. Leo School as well as these components here at St. Leo.
